Petra nominated for Life Saving SA award
The Parks Swimming Lessons Director, Petra Majchrak, has been nominated for the 2021 Life Saving South Australia Pool Employee of the Year award, acknowledging her outstanding dedication to excellence.
Petra has worked tirelessly to raise awareness of safety in and around water inside the centre, while demonstrating drive and commitment to promoting the water safety message to all segments of the local and wider Adelaide community.
Petra is passionate about teaching children from very early age to ensure they are ‘water safety ready’ early in their lives.
Her dedication to growing The Parks LTS program after last year’s COVID closure saw enrolments grow from 515 in July 2020 to 870 in March 2021 – an incredible 41 per cent rise. As a result, the centre’s water education and safety program is currently operating at 25 per cent growth on a month-to-month average.
A devotion to raising water safety awareness and support to all community segments, has seen her go above all expectations in her work with the Department for Education Water Safety program. This ensured that the pool and facility surrounds are made available and safe to accommodate up to 300 weekly visits of children living with various and often complex disabilities.
Co-working with the LEAP Aquatics program (YMCA’s program response to NDIS) and Xlent disability program has ensured that aquatic programs are delivered to all participants, regardless of their age and abilities.
Petra was awarded the 2017 SA AUSTswim Teacher of the Year - Infant and Preschool, and all at YMCA SA wish Petra the best when LSSA award winners are announced on 2 September.
