Centre Manager Updates

Get excited – we're re-opening!

Have you heard the word? We’re about to be back in business and could not be happier about seeing you all again.

We are thrilled to announce that we are aiming to re-open the Centre – your Centre – on Tuesday, 9th of June!

The re-opening of gyms is part of Step 2 of the South Australian Roadmap for easing CV-19 restrictions. We know the Government has moved Step 2 forward to the 5th of June, however to ensure the best possible customer experience with all hands on deck we’ve decided to open after the Queen’s Birthday long weekend.

Our leadership team has started to return to work this week in preparation for the re-opening and it’s been great to see their faces. Everyone is excited to catch up with you all.

Also, this one is still a secret but here is a hint… equipment upgrades landing June 2020. Watch this space for further details.

The local community deserves congratulations for the effort that has been made to stay isolated. It is this effort that has produced the success we have had in controlling the CV-19 outbreak. It is also this effort that, very soon, will allow you to re-engage with each other and our Centre.

The countdown is on and we’ll be in touch with the plans we’re putting in place for your safety over the coming weeks. Thank you for your support and understanding as we navigate the resumption of business.

Things are going to be a little different – but it’s still going to be your Y.

Member Newsletter #3 06.05.20

Greetings to our valued Members,

I hope this update finds you and your loved ones safe and well.

Another two weeks of COVID-19 isolation is history and I trust this time is passing quickly and without too much stress. As we look forward there is a glimmer of light – we can’t wait for the go-ahead to re-open the centre for you.

We are now seeing restrictions ease in some parts of the country and South Australian authorities continue to assess how and when we can re-engage with you, and again help drive your health and fitness programs. We will continue to monitor updates and inform you of any significant movements.

News from around the Y and your community:

  • The Parks Recreation & Sports Centre was nominated as a Fitness Australia awards finalist in the category of ‘Accredited Fitness Business of the Year’. All at the Centre are extremely proud of this achievement and the high standards we have set.
  • Across our council zone, playgrounds and skate parks are re-opening! This is a positive step towards getting back to normality and great for those who have been yearning for activity external to home.
  • YMCA South Australia is pleased to be able to offer staff access to the JobKeeper initiative which is providing valuable assistance to our greatest asset – our people. Thank you to everyone who has reached out and passed on thoughts for our team.
  • With a 175-year legacy of supporting Australians through events such as the Spanish Flu, two World Wars, the great Depression and, more recently, the Global Financial Crisis, the YMCA has a unique insight into the impacts of global crises on communities. We want you to know that we’re here and committed to assist you in any way we can.

We are closing in on the finish so continue to remain vigilant, conform to the CV-19 restrictions and, together, we will get through it.

Finally everyone at the Centre would like to wish all mums a Happy Mother’s Day this Sunday

Hello from your friends at The Parks 22.04.20

To our valued Members,

I hope you and your families are safe and well.

Walking around the centre during the COVID-19 closure period is certainly a sombre experience. Our members and staff team are without doubt the beating heart of this wonderful facility.

As we continue to navigate our way through the ever changing landscape of the community shutdown due to coronavirus, I am keen to continue to reach out, stay connected and provide some hopefully useful information on what’s happening around the facility and community.

  • This weekend we will gratefully remember the men and women who gave the ultimate sacrifice for the country we live in today. Saturday 25 April marks ANZAC Day and, as we will be unable to attend any services this year, maybe light a candle and observe a minute’s silence during the morning as a mark of respect.
  • The Regency Road to Pym Street project is well under way and there is a great new communication app out called ‘SitePodium’. This is a great communication tool to keep local residents and businesses up to date with construction activities, traffic changes and more. It also provides you with quick and easy access to the project team. Choose ‘download’ from the app store or google play, and search for the R2P project.
  • City of Port Adelaide Enfield Council have announced the opportunity for deferred rate payments for members of the community experiencing hardship as a result of COVID-19. For further information contact the Council on 8405 6600.

We hope you are still enjoying the Les Mills on Demand access and continuing, where possible, to stay physically active. We would love you to share your ideas on how to stay active at this time – tag us in on Facebook and let us know what you’re up to.

In the meantime stay safe, follow social distancing rules and please contact us if you need any support.

A message from our Centre Manager 10.04.20

To our loyal and valued members,

Firstly, I hope that you and your loved ones are safe, healthy and managing your time at home in the best possible way.

As your local YMCA, we are doing all we can to care for our people, customers and the communities we serve during this difficult time.

Keeping in touch is vital to our community, particularly given that many people are now working from or staying at home. This is a new experience and we miss seeing our members and guests at the Parks, and I’m sure that interaction, which is often taken for granted, is missed by you as well.

I encourage all members and their families to use social media to stay connected and also take advantage of some of the old ways to remain active. Maybe the old games in the shed or some simple ball games will help keep kids (and adults) active, interested and socially engaged?

The closure of The Parks has obviously had a big impact on social activity and I want to assure all members that we are looking forward to re-engaging with members and the community as soon as possible.

In the meantime I want to encourage members to take advantage of our Les Mills On-demand platform and access the classes available exclusively to members.

The YMCA remains engaged and active with the latest information on the COVID-19 pandemic and I can assure you that we are planning our recovery strategies with a focus on staff, our members and our local community.

While we are unable to provide you with personal service through our centres at this time, we will stay in touch with ways to remain engaged with your health and wellness until we reopen.

We’ll also be bringing news and tips most relevant to you, along with a little inspiration and motivation - things we all need right now.

Please keep up to date with the latest here on our website or on Facebook.

Please contact us if you need any support during this time.
